The Farm Will and Jodie Characters

Where the Story Begins

When we first came upon this property, it was an old, neglected hay farm that hadn’t been worked in several years. With a dream of creating a new kind of farm that would naturally integrate into the existing ecosystem and into the community we love so much, we got to work. We put in power, built greenhouses, rejuvenated the soil, and started to grow the food that supplied the original iteration of the Rusted Rake.

Today, the farm is much more than a beautiful backdrop for our guests— it’s a creative, community-centered place, and it’s the source of everything we make and do. A fully-fledged working farm, where we harvest the barley for our beer and produce for our menu. With thriving beehives, berries, garlic, rhubarb, herbs, and flowers, our crops (and our skills) are constantly growing and evolving.

At The Rake, the words “fresh” and “locally-sourced” mean something. We believe people should know where their food comes from, and we’re proud to say, much of it is grown right here. We farm with care, eliminating kitchen waste and spent grain through our composting processes, collaborating with local experts to help our fields thrive, supplying our neighbours with excess produce, and encouraging local youth to learn the ropes here.

Whether we’re farming, brewing or hosting, you can be sure it’s done with heart, soul, a lot of hard work,
and a tonne of joy, and we can’t wait for you to experience it.
