As part of our two-year anniversary weekend last month, we pledged to donate $1 from each beer sold during the weekend to Nanoose Community Services (NCS). As well, Hazel sold lemonade for a day outside The Rake entrance with all proceeds going to NCS.

The result? We recently presented a cheque to NCS Chair Cait McDonald in the amount of $847!!

Among the services provided by NCS are monthly grocery gift cards, culinary skill sharing, assistance to students for programs such as extracurricular activities, school excursions, etc., and emergency dental and optical care. And an extra fist bump to the 15 team members who have been with us since opening day, we couldn`t have reached the end of year 2 without you.

To celebrate turning 2, we have a couple of special things to announce:

🥗 Chef Nick and the kitchen team have made some updates to our menu for the summer including the addition of Korean Fried Chicken, Blueberry Salad, Caprese Salad, Lingcod Burger, Reuben Sandwich (pictured), and Seared Lingcod Caprese

🍺 Our talented Brewer Dave has created a limited special edition beer - Raspberry Hazy IPA (pictured). This beer is crisp, refreshing and perfect for these warm summer days.

❤️ Community is core to what we do, to help support Nanoose Bay we will be donating $1 from every beer sold this weekend to Nanoose Community Services. As well, Hazel has a lemonade stand set up at the entrance to the lounge this afternoon and will be donating proceeds to NCS.

The picture was taken today from the top of Nanoose Hill (aka Notch Hill) overlooking Nanoose Harbour and a portion of the traditional territory of the Snaw-naw-as First Nation. If you zoom in, Rusted Rake Brewing can be found in the middle of this photo.

The Snaw-naw-as are Coast Salish people, they are one of the most northern tribes on the east side of Vancouver Island. They speak Hul’q’umi’num’, which is 1 of 3 branches of the Halkomelum dialect spoken from Nanoose to Oregon.

We acknowledge that we operate in a place that has rich and important Indigenous history and are grateful for the stewardship provided by the Coast Salish People since time immemorial.
